The flywheel’s function
The flywheel, a disc-shaped part with a large moment of inertia, acts like an energy memory. For four-stroke engines, every four piston strokes work, that is, only the work stroke is used, and the exhaust, intake and compression of the three strokes consume work. Flywheels can be used to reduce speed fluctuations during engine operation.
